Ben Franklin Fifth-grader Wins Poetry Award

Baker won a creative writing contest that challenged students to express why they are happy American is a nation of immigrants.

Ben Franklin fifth-grader Al Baker is on to North Middle School next year, and he  is also now an award-winning poet.

Baker won the American Immigration Lawyers Association creative writing contest with his 410-word poem on why he’s glad America is a nation of immigrants. He received $125 for taking first place in the state. The contest is sponsored by the American Immigration Council.
