Menomonee Falls didn't have to break a sweat on a dusty and crispy Trenary Field Friday, and coasted through seven innings to a victory over the Slinger Owls in the WIAA state tournament regional final game. The top-seeded Indians (27-4, 17-3 Greater Metro) cruised to a 6-1 victory and dashed the Owls' (13-17, 7-11 North Shore) hopes of a state title in 2012. The Indians; however, are red hot winning 5 of their last 6 games, and will advance to sectionals and play either Homestead or Arrowhead at 10:30 a.m. in Cedarburg. The Indians tacked up three runs through the first three innings, but busted the game open in the bottom of the fourth. Falls' Ryan Bove and Jimmy Kolz opened the Indians' half of the inning with back-to-back singles.  A walk issued by the Owls' pitcher John Sprayberry later loaded the bases. Falls didn't hesitate to cash in. Joel Zyhowski dropped a blooper to right, which scored two runs. Brett Krause then doubled to score another run in very the next at bat. That opened the lead to 6-0, and that was enough for the Falls Friday. Slinger answered back the next inning and made the best of a leadoff triple by Sam Osterberg. James Boden singled to bring him in to score. The Owls eventually loaded the bases with two outs, but relief pitcher Paul Fitzgerald shut the door on the Owls' best chance to trim the lead by striking out the first batter he faced.
