Girls Rugby Team Looks To Repeat as State Champs
The state finals will be held later this month in Hartland.

It's tournament time for a lesser known sport - at least in this country.
The annual Wisconsin High School Girls Rugby (WGR) State Finals will be held starting at 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 28 beginning at at Naga-Waukee Park located in Hartland.
Club teams from southeastern Wisconsin will participate in the final playoff games of the season, which will culminate in the State Championship match at 1 p.m.

The following clubs will participate:
- Divine Savior Holy Angels
- Kettle Moraine
- Brookfield/Wauwatosa
- Menomonee Falls
- Vernon
- Catholic Memorial
- Fond du Lac
- Muskego
- Oak Creek
The first Wisconsin girls rugby team was formed at Divine Savior Holy Angels in 1996. The first conference season and State Championship was held in the fall of 2001, with four original clubs. The league has continued to grow and showcase national level talent and competition. The WGR routinely fields teams that compete strongly in the Midwest Girls Rugby Tournament, but also the National U-19 Girls Rugby Tournament facilitated by USA Rugby.

Last year, the Menomonee Falls girls team took home glory by defeating Oak Creek and going undefeated for the season.
