Falls Names New Basketball Coach

Dan Leffel is stepping down, and the Indians will now be led by a coach from a Greater Metro Conference rival school.

The Menomonee Falls boys varsity basketball team will have a new coach next season.

Athletic Director Ryan Anderson on Tuesday announced that Brookfield East’s Ben Farley would take over for the vacancy left behind by Dan Leffel. Farley coached the Spartans for 10 years, and served as their basketball team’s top assistant last year.

“I’m extremely grateful and feel truly blessed for the opportunity to lead the basketball program at Menomonee Falls High School.  Our student-athletes will exemplify our three principles: Tough, strong, together.  We will pride ourselves and work every day in building our identity of being the hardest-working team in the Greater Metro Conference,” Farley said.

Anderson said Farley will bring a wealth of expertise to the program, as well as some defensive tenacity.

“The selection committee and I are ecstatic to add Coach Farley to our coaching staff at MFHS.  He has made a name for himself at Brookfield East as a defensive guru in basketball,” said Athletic Director Ryan Anderson.  “Farley is a coach who stood out among the 42 applicants.  He is a gym rat who will teach basketball skills, hard work, and determination to each young man in our program.  This hire is big to help move our program toward success in and out of the classroom.”

Leffel stepped down from the head coaching job after two seasons to spend more time with family and focus more on teaching his third-graders at Riverside Elementary School.

Farley has the freedom to hire all three of his assistant coaches.  Interested applicants are to apply on WECAN or contact Anderson for more information.  The deadline to apply is May 13.  Assistants are to be named by May 17.
