Patch Editor Gains Clarity on Mountain Climb

Forgive the personal story, but I wanted to share an enlightening experience with my loyal Patch readers that I had while on vacation atop Mt. Adams in Washington.

Forgive your Patch editor here, but I just wanted to share the view I had while I was thousands of miles away on vacation.

After months and months of dedication bringing you the local news, I needed to take a vacation. So, I decided to climb a mountain to clear my head with the crisp high-elevation air and a heightened perspective.

My group decided to get an early start, and we ascended Mt. Adams in Washington at 3 a.m. Saturday from Lunch Counter, which is halfway to the top. Our headlamps were our only guide, and I quickly found myself in a meditative state as my crampons and ice axe crunched up the frozen snow.

We reached the summit, 12,281 feet, at 6:30 a.m. I just wanted to share this video of what it was like at the top. It definitely felt like we were deep in the throes of winter at the summit with gusting winds and frigid temperatures.

To exorcise the demons of the "Fail Mary" Green Bay Packers game, I got a picture with my Title Towel at the top of the Seahawks home state. I hope it worked!

Anyway, pardon me for taking a moment to share a personal triumph with you all. But, the way I see it, we've all been on a journey of sorts together for the past nearly three years.
