Resident Cited For Firing Weapon Near Lisbon Road

Brookfield and Falls police were dispatched to Lisbon Road Sunday evening because a man discharged a firearm in a rural part of the village.

Residents travelling on Lisbon Road in the southwestern portion of the village may have noticed a large police presence along the road Sunday evening.

Police were dispatched to the area after they received a call that a firearm had been discharged in the area. Both Falls and Brookfield police responded to the call due to the nature of the incident.

“Whenever you get a discharge of a firearm you obviously take that seriously and you don’t know what the situation is until you get there,” said Falls Police Capt. Mark Waters.

Turns out, the individual who fired the weapon was testing a gun they recently purchased. Of course, firing a weapon in the village is prohibited by ordinance – even in the more rural areas of the community. However, there are ten exceptions in the village’s code regarding the discharge of firearms.

The individual was issued a municipal citation for illegal discharge of a firearm.

A similar, but far more reckless, incident occurred in January 2012 when I Falls resident used a .22 caliber rifle to handle his squirrel problem.
