Students in Falls Achieve Highest ACT Score in School History

Last year, Menomonee Falls High School juniors and seniors set the bar for performance on the ACT examination at its highest level since records were first kept in 1995. 

The 275 students that took the test combined for an average ACT composite score of 23.3 out of 36, according to data released by the Department of Public Instruction Wednesday. The 2012-13 average marks a 0.4 point increase from last year's average composite score of 22.9. 

The state composite average remained the same at 22. 

“We are thrilled by the ACT results. Our staff and students have been working tirelessly toward this end for several years,” said High School Principal Corey Golla. “To see that work start producing results for students will be inspiring as we continue the journey this year. This combined with our AP results illustrates that the bar has been raised.”

Falls has closed the gap with neighboring school districts, with Elmbrook performing at the highest level with an average composite score of 24.9. Students in Whitefish Bay once again topped the state in performance on the ACT with a an average score of 26. 

The ACT is a college-prep test measuring students’ preparedness and performance in four categories: English, math, reading and science. Many colleges use ACT scores in admission requirements, and many organizations use the scores in awarding scholarships

The district recently announced a record 362 students took Advanced Placement (AP) tests, nearly 100 more than last year, with 80 percent earning a 3 or better on a 1-5 grading scale. A 3 indicates college readiness and in some cases earns students college credit.
