Ahoy Matey! Iconic Boat House Up For Sale

Originally built in 1926 as a tourist attraction, it's never seen real water. And hey, it has a galley kitchen!

MILWAUKEE, WI -- Nestled along the banks of the Milwaukee river is a quiet, two-lane street lined with maple trees and working-class houses. And on that street, overlooking the river, is one of the city's most iconic homes - the Milwaukee "boat house."

Unless you walk on water, this boat allows the average landlubber to enjoy grass, gardens and Cambridge Wood's trails. She's 72-feet long, 18-feet wide with a 16-foot beam - yet by residential standards has a tiny living space of 500 square feet.

Rumors circulate that the house was an actual seaworthy vessel at some point, or a boat that was commissioned but never put to sea, however the report states that none of these fish stories are true.

According to an OnMilwaukee article, the house was built in 1926 as more of a tourist attraction than a comfortable showplace. Edmund B. Gustdorf and a few helpers built The Boat House on the Cambridge Ave. from the ground-up.
