A quick glance at the 2013 National Night Out on Jacato Drive might give someone the impression that this year isn't as successful as the big, splashy kick off last year.
The reason? Last year was organized primarily by volunteers with We Are Racine who don't live in the neighborhood, but this year has the stamp of neighbors.
"This year we have residents participating," said Beth David, founder of WAR. "And that was the goal; to get neighbors together to care about the street they live on."
National Night Out 2012 was a big deal. Not only was it the first time NNO was ever held on Jacato - long believed to be the worst street in the city - but it was busy with live music, games, a cook out, a bouncy house and more.
This year was smaller, and residents mingled more.
"I think this is perfect," David said.
