7 Cats, Guinea Pig Killed In Racine County House Fire

RACINE COUNTY, WI — An early morning house fire in Racine County claimed the lives of seven cats and a guinea pig, according to the Racine County Sheriff's Office. Fortunately, a father and son were able to get out of the burning house safely along with three dogs.

The fire happened shortly before 6:30 a.m. Tuesday along the 600 block of N. Britton Rd. in Dover.

Deputies said the homeowner dialed 911 to report that their dining room was on fire and said that they believed a space heater was to blame.

The Racine County Sheriff's Office, the Racine County Fire Task Force and multiple fire departments responded to the scene.

Authorities said the home and its attached garage were a complete loss. One vehicle was also destroyed in the fire.

North Britton Road was closed for approximately five hours for the fire equipment.

At this time, deputies said the fire remains under investigation.
