769 New COVID-19 Cases Reported Sunday In Wisconsin; 3rd-Highest

Wisconsin reported its third-highest COVID-19 case count ever on Sunday after a record-breaking weekend.

MILWAUKEE, WI — Wisconsin has seen the third-highest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases after 769 cases were reported over a 24-hour period Sunday.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, Saturday saw 926 new COVID-19 cases over a 24-hour period. Friday saw 845 new cases— each records at the time in Wisconsin. Sunday's count puts it third behind Saturday and Friday case counts.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services data, 10.1 percent of all COVID-19 tests reported Sunday came back positive. A total of 7,617 tests were processed.

In a rare instance, Wisconsin reported one fewer death Sunday than it did on Saturday, lowering Wisconsin's COVID-19-related death count from 821 to 820. Officials said there can be corrections in the data from time to time that impact case information outcomes.

Though the number of positive cases reported each day has been trending up over recent days, the number of COVID-19-related fatalities has declined steadily since reaching its high-water marks on April 10 and June 2, when the 7-day rolling average for COVID-19 fatalities approached 13 per day. As of July 12, that rolling average stood at 3.43 per day.

According to DHS data as of Sunday, 79 percent of all people who tested positive for COVID-19 have recovered. Officials said 20 percent of all cases are active. Officials said 2.2 percent of all those who tested positive ended up dying from virus-related complications.
