County Inaugurates New Shuttle Service

Getting to work or running errands can be tiresome and time-consuming if someone doesn't have their own vehicle. Starting Friday, getting around Racine County is going to get easier with the new Racine County Link.

County Executive Jim Ladwig announced that, beginning June 1, Racine County residents can take advantage of Racine County Link, a new cross-county shuttle service that links eastern and western Racine County. This new service is funded through grants from the Federal Transit Administration’s New Freedom Program and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s Specialized Transportation Assistance Program.

Racine County Link, which is available to the general public, will help reduce some of the transportation barriers that affect Racine County residents. Among other things, it will:

• Provide an additional transportation option for disabled residents of Racine County;
• Provide a way for county residents, especially those west of I-94, to get to the county’s Human Services Department and Workforce Development Center at 1717 Taylor Avenue in the City of Racine; and
• Give residents the transportation flexibility to take advantage of employment opportunities elsewhere in the county.

Racine County Link will make a loop three times each weekday, beginning at the Wal-Mart in Mount Pleasant; proceeding west to Union Grove, Burlington, and Waterford; heading back east to the county’s Aging & Disability Resource Center in Ives Grove and the HSD/Workforce Development Center in Racine; and finally returning to the Mount Pleasant Wal-Mart. It will follow a set route and schedule, making 10 regular stops on every loop. Door-to-door service may be available by reservation, if made at least one day in advance.

Fares for Racine County Link will be $2.00 for pick-ups at a scheduled stop.  For door-to-door service, the fare will be $2.50 for persons with a disability, $3.50 for all other persons.
