Sturtevant police say a woman who attacked the father of her child and another woman is spending time now in the Racine County Jail.
Adaliz Umpierre, 22, of Mount Pleasant, was charged Friday with two felony counts of first degree recklessly endangering safety, use of a dangerous weapon and one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct, domestic abuse, use of a dangerous weapon. If convicted, she faces up to 25 years, three months in jail and/or up to $51,000 in fines.
According to the criminal complaint, Sturtevant police were called at 11:41 p.m. Sept. 1 to a home in the 9300 block of Florence Drive for a report of fights in progress. While officers were on their way, dispatch advised ten people were fighting and yelling about a knife or a weapon.
After police arrived, they spoke with a man and a woman who both said they heard yelling outside their residence. When they looked outside, officers say the couple reported that they saw Umpierre standing at the end of the driveway with individuals they didn't recognize, threatening to damage the woman's car.
Police say the man told them Umpierre is the mother of his child.
The man and woman went outside to address the situation and that's when they said Umpierre approached them with her hand behind her back, the complaint reads. When she brought her hand around, the couple said Umpierre swung a pair of scissors several times at the woman in an attempt to stab her. Then, Umpierre turned and tried to stab the man with the scissors.
After several people who were with Umpierre got the scissors away from her, the woman told police that Umpierre ran at her and hit her. Officers say that during the fight, the man called 911 for police.
Umpierre remains in the Racine County Jail on a $500 cash bond. If she posts bail, she will also sign a $2,000 signature bond with the conditions that she not have any contact with any of the victims or their residences named in the complaint. Umpierre is also ordered to not possess or control any weapons.
She will next be in court Sept. 12 for a preliminary hearing.
