Back to School: Fees Parents Should Plan to Pay
Back to school often also means paying fees for books and activities.

School starts for most grades in the Racine Unified School District in just 28 days, and while parents pay for school supplies, there are also some fees.
Students in grades K - 5, parents will pay between $10 and $17 for a consumable materials fee, depending on the grade level.
For all middle and high school students, there is a book rental fee of $25 per semester or $50 per year. Parents can get a $10 break, though, if they write one check for the whole year and pay before the end of the first semester.
Additionally, high school students who play sports or participate in certain activities - like cheerleading and poms - there is an $80 fee per child per activity with a maximum of $240 per year per family.
Racine Unified spokesperson Stacy Tapp confirmed that some clubs or activities may come with additional costs.
"Parking and instrument rental would be other optional fees," she wrote in an email to Patch. "There also might be fees associated with certain clubs or activities."
