Update: Bike vs. Car Accident Sends Woman to Hospital
Mount Pleasant Police had parts of Airline Road and Old Spring Street blocked for about 90 minutes Tuesday morning because of an accident that sent a bicyclist to the hospital.

A woman riding her bike on Old Spring Street Tuesday morning was hit by a car and suffered non-life threatening injuries.
The accident happened around 9:30 a.m.

According to Mount Pleasant Police Chief Tim Zarzecki, an 84-year-old male driver was traveling south in a small SUV on Airline road when he initiated a right-hand turn to go west on Old Spring Street.
At the same time, a 52-year-old female bike rider was heading west on Old Spring Street. As the driver of the car moved forward, he struck the bicyclist.

Both the driver and the victim are from Racine.
South Shore Rescue responded and treated the bicyclist at the scene before transporting her to Wheaton Franciscan.
"She was transported to the hospital and admitted for non-life threatening injuries," Zarzecki confirmed. He said according to the accident report, Flight for Life was not called.
According to scanner reports at Racine Uncovered, the woman had an open compound fracture to her leg.
Zarzecki said the driver was not cited at the scene, but the incident remains under investigation and a citation or citations are still possible.
