American Horror Story: Even the Anti-Christ Has a Birthday

The family that dies together in the house stays together!

Back in 1984, Crazy Connie was drunk and/or high with bills piling up while seven-year-old Tate was meeting Frankenstein Thaddeus and dead Mrs. Montgomery in the basement. This is where he learned the trick of yelling "Go away!" to make the ghosts disappear.

A neat trick he taught Violet at one time and will work against him, too, at some point, but we'll get to that later.

Back in 2011, a lot of bombshells and fun facts get dropped. Here are some in no particular order:

  • Nora (Mrs. Montgomery) and Tate made a deal for a baby and that is why Tate donned the rubber suit to have sex with Viv;
  • Ben makes Violet get in the car to go with him to pick Viv up from the hospital and is flabbergasted when she "disappears" as he drives off;
  • Violet tells Ben she's dead and that is why she can't leave the house;
  • Chad and Patrick have big plans to steal the babies and then smother them when they're 18 months old to keep them cute forever;
  • The psychic gives Tate and Violet a "spell" to banish Chad and Patrick (ferret out the faeries as Constance puts it), but apparently it won't work ghost-on-ghost;
  • Patrick is very pissed off that he was killed in the house because that means he has to spend eternity with Chad (classic eavesdropping moment);
  • No surprise that evil, real and powerful, was created by events in the house that keeps getting fed by trauma and pain and wants to move in the human world;
  • Viv is getting released and the doc tells Ben that one baby is starving the other and Viv should have an immediate, emergency C-section instead of going to Florida to have the babies.

So it's no surprise that seconds after pulling the car into the driveway, Vivien goes into labor. Crazy Connie hears her screaming and pulls her into the house. No surprise that Viv does not want to be in the house to have the babies, but no worries, Viv!

Dr. Montgomery, the dead nurses, Moira, and Mrs. Montgomery are all there to "help." Ben tries to call for an ambulance, but with all the ghosts suddenly in full-bodied attendance, there are no outside lines. Even the power goes down.

Ben is freaking out - duh - and Ben wants to know who all those people are, but Crazy Connie tells him the house is trying to help so let it. Ben mans up and goes to sit with Viv as she delivers the first baby (stillborn), which goes directly into the arms of Mrs. Montgomery, and then the Anti-Christ makes its presence known.

Viv goes through hell getting that baby out. Birth scenes are usually so melodramatic, but we know what horror is coming and that knowledge lends a certain doom and darkness to what is already tense and creepy.

No surprise that Viv ends up dying in the end, encouraged more than little by Violet. Mother and daughter - who by now knows the truth about Tate and yells for him to GO AWAY - meet again in Violet's room.

"I'm sorry you lost your baby, Mom," Violet says.

But Viv hugs her and says, "I didn't lose my baby."
