COVID-19 Deaths Rise; Case Rate Appears To Slow In Racine County

Health officials in Racine County and the city of Racine delivered a coronavirus update Thursday that includes new data.

RACINE COUNTY, WI — Racine County has seen an increase in coronavirus-related deaths, as health officials have reported 14 fatalities over the last 10 days. Yet as the number of reported deaths increased, a key report says Racine's rate of confirmed cases appears to be leveling off.

According to the latest figures from Racine County, The Central Racine County Health Department has recorded 23 virus-related deaths to date. Ten days ago, they recorded 11. Likewise, in the city of Racine, health officials recorded eight virus-related deaths ten days ago. On Thursday, that figure stood at 14.

The number of cases continues to rise as well, though at a slower rate, according to local data. Central Racine County Health Department officials recorded 517 confirmed COVID-19 cases on May 28, up from 355 ten days ago. City officials in Racine reported 1,117 cumulative confirmed cases on Thursday, up from 1,059 ten days ago.

These figures leave out the number of probable cases reported on Thursday. According to Racine County, the Central Racine County Health Department recognizes 119 cases as probable for COVID-19. City officials report 146 probable cases.

The region's positive test percentage has been decreasing. According to Department of Health Services data, Racine County's positive test percentage stood at 18.96 percent on May 14. As of Wednesday, it was 16.74 percent.
