Durand Ave. Construction Starting Soon

According to the Wisconsin Department of Transporation, d​uring construction, motorists will be encouraged to use alternate routes.

RACINE, WI — The next phase of road construction along Highway 11 is expected to begin on Monday.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Transporation, during construction, motorists will be encouraged to use alternate routes. Highway 11 will be reconstructed in multiple phases, and the intersection of Highway 11 and Highway 31 will be built in multiple stages. As of early February, authorities posted a sign just west of Highway 11's intersection with S. Memorial Drive alerting motorists to the start of construction.

Project managers say about 1.3 miles of Durand Ave. from Highway 31 to Kentucky Street is expected to be reconstructed in the communities of Mount Pleasant and Racine.

Improvements will include:

  • Replacement of concrete pavement and curb and gutter
  • Storm sewer improvements
  • New sidewalks along the project
  • Sidewalk handicap ramps will be improved to meet ADA standards
  • The project will also include intersection improvements at WIS 31, Wood Road, Roosevelt Avenue/ Southwood Drive, and Ohio Street/ Meachem Road.

  • 2019 - Fall /Winter - Utility relocation
  • 2020 - Spring - Construction begins
    • Half of the roadway is scheduled to be completed in year one.
  • 2021 - Fall - Construction ends
    • The second half of the roadway is scheduled to be completed in year two.
