Five-Time Drunk Driver Arrested During Snowstorm

A man with five prior drunken driving convictions and a revoked license has picked up a new charge, after a sheriff's deputy found him driving with no headlights on during Wednesday night's snowstorm.

Joshua W. Quella, 37, of Racine, faces his sixth drunken driving charge and a charge of driving with a revoked license as a habitual traffic offender, 

He faces prison time of up to three years, if convicted, plus thousands of dollars in fines. 

According to the criminal complaint, at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, a Racine County sheriff's deputy saw a vehicle without its lights on, heading south on Oakes Road at Washington Avenue. When the driver stopped, a sergeant who made the traffic stop smelled alcohol. Because of the weather, Quella was taken to St. Mary's Medical Center for field sobriety tests and a breath test. He did not pass the field sobriety tests, and a preliminary blood test showed his blood-alcohol concentration to be 0.10, over the legal limit.
