Garbage Truck Strikes Electric Pole, No Injuries Reported

The driver of the truck was not injured, and a preschool was evacuated as a precaution, but businesses in the area did not lose power.

A garbage truck vs. electric pole caused a little excitement Monday morning in the 5200 block of Washington Avenue.

Mount Pleasant police and South Shore Fire were dispatched around noon for calls that a Veolia garbage truck hit an electric pole behind the Racine Centre shopping center where Piggly Wiggly is locatd. When officers arrived, they found the pole resting on top of the truck and the top of the pole teetering on live wires. The driver was advised to stay in the truck.

Lt. Joe Christensen of SSFD said the driver reported hearing the snapping of the lines, but WE Energies crews were able to help the driver out of the truck. He was uninjured. A preschool next door was evacuated as a precaution.
