High Speed Chase Leads to Arrest, Possible Charges

Mount Pleasant Police arrested the suspect after a high speed chase down Durand Avenue.

After a high-speed chase through parts of the village and into the City of Racine, Mount Pleasant Police took the driver into custody on a number of charges.

According to a written release from MPPD, Jose Gomez, 23, will most likely be charged Monday with possession of a firearm by a felon; possession of marijuana; fleeing and eluding a police officer; and probation violation.

Officers on patrol at 3 a.m. Saturday witnessed a vehicle traveling east on Durand Avenue at about 100 miles per hour. They immediately fell in behind the car, but when they tried to initiate a traffic stop, the driver kept going and police gave chase.

The police statement says that the driver of the car pulled into the driveway of a home in the 1800 block of Grand Avenue and then fled on foot. Officers were able to apprehend the man several blocks away. When Gomez was searched, police say they found marijuana and a handgun.

Gomez is being detained at the Racine County Jail on a $10,500 cash bail.
