Home Surveillance Helps Police Nab Suspected Burglar
Police say a Kenosha man was caught on a neighbor's video surveillance breaking into one home the day before he was nabbed for allegedly attempting another burglary.
The home surveillance video at a Racine home helped police nab the man accused of breaking in to a neighbor's house and stealing a number of items, including a gun.
Timothy Kuroski, 40, of Kenosha, was charged Friday in Racine County Circuit Court with:
- felony attempted burglary, repeater;
- felony burglary, repeater;
- felony theft, moveable property, repeater;
- felony possession of a firearm by a felon, repeater;
- misdemeanor obstructing an officer, repeater; and
- misdemeanor theft, repeater.
According to the criminal complaint, Racine police at 2:30 p.m. Thursday responded to a call in the 1600 block of Perry for an attempted break in. When officers arrived, they spoke to the homeowner who told them someone knocked on her door, but she didn't answer. A few seconds later, someone tried to open a window on the west side of her home but couldn't gain entrance.
The party moved to a south side window and had his arm inside the open window when the woman spoke to him. The person fled but the woman was able to give a description to officers, the complaint reads.
A short time later, a Mount Pleasant police officer spotted a man, later identified as Kuroski, walking in front of an apartment building in the 5500 block of Byrd Avenue who matched the woman's description. When the officer exited their squad to look for Kuroski, the officer said they saw the defendant lying amongst some bushes.
Police say Kuroski took off despite several commands from officers to stop. After a short foot chase that included jumping a fence and trying to again hide behind some bushes, the officer pulled his taser and told Kuroski to come out with his hands up and lay down on the ground. Kuroski complied and was taken into custody.
The day before this incident, Racine police responded to a home in the 3500 block of 16th Street for a report of a burglary and were provided video surveillance by a neighbor, the complaint reads.
RAPD officers say the video shows a man wearing the same clothes Kuroski was wearing Thursday when he was apprehended for the attempted break-in of the home on Perry.
Investigators ran Kuroski's name through Northeastern Wisconsin Property reporting system to find out if he was listed as selling any items to pawn or resale shops. They say they got a hit from a shop in Kenosha that reported the following sales:
- 10-carat gold ring, size 6;
- 10-carat gold ring, size 5;
- 10-carat gold bracelet;
- 10-carat gold necklace with a charm;
- A broken 10-carat bracelet; and
- 10-carat gold necklace.
Kuroski remains in the Racine County Jail on a $5,000 cash bond. He will have his preliminary hearing on June 26.
