I-94 Closures in Racine, Milwaukee County: How To Avoid

This week from Monday, Jan. 27, through Wednesday, Jan. 29, there will be closures on I-94. Here's what to watch for.

RACINE COUNTY, WI — For those of us behind the wheel in Racine and southern Milwaukee Counties, the I-94 construction project has meant delays, detours and some advanced planning.

This week from Monday, Jan. 27, through Wednesday, Jan. 29, there will be another one.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, I-94 east will be closed overnight from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for a variety of work. The closure will extend from Ryan Road south to Highway G in Racine County as workers perform the following tasks:

  • Removal of a concrete barrier wall.
  • Work on a Root River pier.
  • Snow and ice cleanup.
  • Switching traffic from the Root River Bridge to Highway G.
  • Switching traffic from Oakwood Road to the Root River Bridge at the county line.

The DOT says drivers can take Ryan Road to 27th Street and the W. Frontage Road to Highway G to get around the freeway closure.
