Man Found Hiding Under Mattress After Police Chase

Mount Pleasant police initiated a traffic stop Thursday, but the driver ran. He was finally apprehended and now faces a few charges instead of just a traffic ticket.

An 18-year-old who ran from police during a traffic stop is facing charges much more serious than a ticket.

Mount Pleasant police say shortly after 3:30 p.m. Thursday at 16th Street and Emmertsen, they initiated a traffic stop with a Dodge Charger. Suddenly, the driver - Stantavious Sillas - took off from the traffic stop going north through an apartment complex.

An officer participating in the chase did hit a parked vehicle; it was unoccupied and the officer was not injured.

When he got to 1425 Emmertsen, Sillas reportedly abandoned the car and disappeared inside one of the residences. While MPPD worked to get a search warrant, Sillas ran from the apartment and led police on a short foot chase during which Sillas managed to elude officers.

Further investigation led police to the 5600 block of Byrd where they found Sillas hiding under a mattress in the basement of an apartment building.
