Update: Man's Arm Amputated After Wood-Splitting Accident

Police said Randy Storbeck's arm was sucked into a wood splitter Tuesday evening, as he worked in the back yard of his home. Neighbors immediately came to his aid, saving his life.

A man lost his right arm in a wood-cutting accident at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, police say. 

According to Sturtevant police, Randy Storbeck, Sr., 53, lost his arm after it was sucked into a wood splitter that he was using in the back yard of his home in the 8900 block of Corliss Avenue.

According to Storbeck's son, Randy Junior, Senior's arm could not be saved. Randy Junior posted on Facebook that Roger's arm was amputed Wednesday at the elbow, but his dad was doing well.

"Thank you for all your well wishes my Dad is doing great cracking jokes and looking good. Thank you to the 3 heroes that saved my fathers life last night," he wrote on Racine Uncovered's Facebook post.

Randy Storbeck, Senior, was taken by South Shore Rescue to Wheaton Franciscan/All Saints hospital. From there, he was taken by Flight for Life to Froedtert hospital in Wauwatosa. 

Neighbors responded immediately and were able to use tourniquets to help Storbeck, said Police Chief Sean Marschke.

Randy Junior offered thanks to those neighbors for saving his father's life.

"Those 3 guys rushed into my dads back yard and removed him from the machine and tied off the wound they are amazing people and can't wait to meet them," he posted.
