Mount Pleasant Adopting Code of Ethics

Mount Pleasant Village President Mark Gleason would like the village to have a code of ethics and an independent committee.

Citing past issues with a former administrator and recommendations from Racine's police chief in answer to allegations involving a trustee, Mount Pleasant Village President Mark Gleason thinks it's high time the village had a code of ethics.

He told The Journal Times he envisions a set of guidelines to help trustees and staffers alike conduct themselves accordingly.

"That’s an area ... fundamentally without foundation,” Gleason is quoted as saying.

But, he was clear to point out that the code is still just an idea and a draft doesn't yet exist.

Still, Gleason said a code of conduct is key for board members to understand their responsibilities and that he'd prefer an outside committee modeled on the county's to review situations when and if they arise.
