WISCONSIN -- New regulations involving school buses and student safety went into effect Tuesday, with penalties for drivers who disobey or ignore the law facing a fine and points.
According to The Racine County Eye, due to the law all school buses now have an eight-light warning system; two amber lights and two red lights on the front and back on top of the bus that alert drivers to impending stops.
Bus drivers activate the amber lights to warn driver when they are approaching a stop. While the amber lights are flashing, drivers can continue traveling, but should use caution.

When the bus is almost stopped, and while passengers are boarding or disembarking, the bus driver will turn on the red flashing lights. The stop sign on the side of the bus will also remain a standard feature.
All drivers must stay 20 feet away from a school bus with red flashing lights. The fine for not obeying the law is $326 and four points.

Bus drivers are also encouraged to write down the license plate numbers of drivers not obeying the laws so police can still issue a ticket.
