No Round-Abouts for Durand Avenue

There will not be round-abouts on Durand Avenue between 90th Street and Lathrop Avenue, the state Department of Transportation has decided.

Round-abouts had been considered, but given the heavy traffic patterns on Durand and the amount of space round-abouts need, the DOT has determined that traditional traffic signals will continue to be used, according to a story from The Journal Times.

Highway 11 is slated for improvements - a total reconstruction, really - between 90th Street and Lathrop Avenue and is tentatively scheduled to begin in 2017.

In an email to the newspaper, DOT spokeswoman Lindsay Schmidt said, "“When we do a reconstruction project we are required to evaluate roundabouts; in this case we determined the existing traffic signal type of intersection made the most sense.”
