Notable Changes to PD Budget Discussed in Village Budget Hearing
Capital expenditures planned for 2021 include new Tasers, laptops, and four new squad vehicles.
Village of Mount Pleasant hosts the second day of budget hearings. This time the Trustees heard from the Chief of Police.
The Mount Pleasant Police Department proposed budget includes a 5.8% increase in salaries and fringe benefits for officers. A portion of that, $17,500, would cover the cost to promote an employee.
Operational costs are down nearly one percent. Training and professional development show minimal amounts spent because of the cancelled training with COVID-19. The Chief pointed out typically the department has a robust training program.

Revenue is down for the department. Revenue comes from grants, which is a competitive process. So far it’s not clear if the department will secure the same grants from last year.
