One Dead In I-94 Crash; Man Drove Into Construction Zone: Report

Authorities say a man who drove off I-94 stopped breathing as a Wisconsin State Trooper tried saving his life at the accident scene.

KENOSHA, WI — Authorities in Wisconsin say one man is dead after he drove his car into a stretch of I-94 that was under construction, and suffered fatal injuries after his vehicle crashed.

According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, Ronald L. Shingleton, 81, of Kenosha, was driving his car south on I-94 in southern Racine County at just after 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19 when he drove his car off the freeway's open lanes, and into a closed portion of the freeway that is currently under construction.

Investigators as Shingleton drove his car south through the construction zone, he entered an un-paved portion of the road. Authorities say Shingleton's car navigated a severe drop, traveled a short distance, and then struck the opposite side of the unpaved area.

The Wisconsin State Patrol says a State Trooper on patrol found Shingleton's vehicle stuck in the construction zone, and immediately stopped to help. The Trooper reported finding Shingleton unconscious in his car. The Trooper pulled him from the car and started performing life-saving measures on him.

Authorities say he stopped breathing as the Trooper attended to him. Rescue personnel attempted to revive Shingleton, who was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
