Police: Man Writes Apology Letter for Stealing Handgun
Police say a man who visited a friend at someone else's house stole a gun and tried to sell it.

A 22-year-old Fond du Lac man is accused of stealing a pistol from a home where his friend was staying.
Brian W. Scott was charged Friday in Racine County Circuit Court with a single count of felony theft, special facts - repeater. If convicted, he faces up to six years and/or up to $10,000 in fines. Because he's considered a repeat offender, he might face extra time in jail when he is sentenced.
Court records indicate Scott was convicted in December 2012 of intimidating a witness and using the phone to threaten harm.

According to the criminal complaint, Scott was visiting Amber Blask while she was at the Mount Pleasant home of a relative who was out of state. Blask had permission to stay in the home as long as she didn't have visitors. When the relative's friend checked on the home, he discovered that between $6,000 and $10,000 was missing along with two firearms.
The homeowner gave the . During a conversation with Blask, officers say she named four people - including Scott - who had stayed at the house. One of those people told police that Scott took the handgun and had tried to sell it in the parking lot of a hotel.

Caledonia police pulled Scott over during a traffic stop on March 14. He was taken into custody and after waiving his rights, officers say he admitted to taking the gun and trying to sell it. Scott also reportedly told officers he gave the gun to one of the other people who was with him at the house.
Scott told police he was sorry and wrote the homeowner a letter of apology asking for their forgiveness, the complaint reads.
The defendant will next be in court on March 21 for his preliminary hearing.
