Police: Nephew Charged After Beating Up Uncle
A Mount Pleasant man is accused of beating up his uncle.
Mount Pleasant police say a 45-year-old man is facing domestic abuse charges after he beat up his uncle during an argument.
Ron Hamrick was charged Wednesday in Racine County Circuit Court with one misdemeanor count each of battery, domestic abuse and disorderly conduct, domestic abuse. If convicted, he faces up to a year in jail and/or up to $11,000 in fines.
According to the criminal complaint, officers responded at 12:21 p.m. Tuesday to the Aurora Walk-In clinic for a report of an assault. When police arrived, they spoke with a man who had injuries to his face and wrist and who explained that his nephew - Hamrick - caused the injuries.
The man told officers that he and Hamrick argued that morning and that Hamrick attacked him by pushing him to the ground and punching him repeatedly in the face and head. Police say the man also said that Hamrick has a habit of just beating people up and that he wanted to use the 72 hour no-contact order. He said that Hamrick was not welcome at his house any longer.
Officers went to the man's address to speak to Hamrick who told a different version of the story, the complaint reads. Hamrick's account has his uncle "coming at him" aggressively, forcing Hamrick to defend himself. When police explained the extent of the man's injuries, Hamrick claimed to have a broken hand and finger.
He was placed under arrest and transported to the Mount Pleasant Police Department. During the drive to MPPD, police say, Hamrick told them the man had a knife during the argument, and that's why Hamrick hit the man.
Hamrick remains in the Racine County Jail on a $500 cash bond. He will next be in court Sept. 5 for a pre-trial conference. If Hamrick posts bond, he is ordered to not have any contact with his uncle, including "person, property, residence or family."
