Police: Patient Stole Medicine Because She Was in Pain
Police say this woman got angry when she was refused pain medicine and stole drugs from a local health clinic.
A 23-year-old Racine woman is facing a number of drug theft charges after police say she broke into a medicine cabinet at a local clinic and stole a quantity of drugs.
Kayla Ingeman was charged Thursday in Racine County Circuit Court with one misdemeanor count of theft; two misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance; and six misdemeanor counts of possession of illegally obtained prescription. If convicted, she faces up to three years, 11 months in jail and/or up to $14,000 in fines
According to the criminal complaint, Mount Pleasant police were called Wednesday to the Aurora Health Clinic, 8348 Washington Avenue, for a report of stolen medication.
Staff members at the clinic say Ingeman was left alone in a room for 30 minutes while she waited to be seen by a doctor. Police say witnesses told them Ingeman was angry because she had been refused pain medication. After she left the clinic, witnesses said the room remained empty, and the theft was discovered when staff went in to prep the room for the next patient and saw the open cabinet with a broken lock.
When officers located Ingeman at her home later that day, she admitted to taking the drugs but said she did so because she was desperate for pain relief after her medication ran out, the complaint reads. Among the drugs Ingeman turned over to police:
- 3 Vials of Adenosine
- 2 Diazepam Injections
- 1 Vial of Diphenhydramine HCL
- 1 Vial of Flumazenil
- 1 Vial of Midazolam
- 1 Vial of Lenophed (Norepinephrine)
- 2 Vials of Phenytoin
- 1 Vial of Nitrostat Pills
