Sturtevant police say siblings got into fight over the weekend, leading to the arrest of one.
Thomas Schwartz, 29, was charged Monday in Racine County Circuit Court with a single count of misdemeanor disorderly conduct, domestic abuse. If convicted, he could face up to 90 days in jail and/or up to $1,000 in fines. Because he is considered a repeat offender, Schwartz could get extra time tacked on to any sentence he might receive.
According to the criminal complaint, Sturtevant police were called just after noon Sunday to a home in the 8800 block of Buckingham by a woman who said her children were in a physical altercation. While officers were on their way, dispatch informed them that the daughter said the fighting was over and she was in the hallway.
Police say the fight started after the woman told her daughter it was time for her to get a job. At this point, Schwartz reportedly started screaming and tossed his sister down the stairs and threw lemonade at her.
The sister told officers that Schwartz is on medication for bipolor disorder and anxiety and said she believed being off his meds is what triggered Schwartz's explosion, the complaint reads. She told police that falling down the stairs hurt the same knee on which she's had surgery, but she refused rescue despite describing the pain as a "10" on a scale "from 1 to 10."
Schwartz, however, told police that he was not off his medication despite needing to get refills and that he was sick of his sister's drama. Police say Schwartz admitted to pushing his sister out the door but not down the stairs.
The sister told police she wanted to use the 72-hour no contact rule so Schwartz was told that if he bonded out of jail he would need to stay somewhere else.
Schwartz remained in the Racine County Jail as of Monday afternoon on a $100 cash bond and the condition that he not have any contact with his sister or anything or anyone at the residence on Buckingham Drive. He will next be in court for a pre-trial conference on Oct. 10.
