Racine County Sheriff Details New Coronavirus Plan

Plans are in the works to release coronavirus cases among those in custody.

RACINE COUNTY, WI— As cases of the coronavirus continue to climb, the Racine County Sheriff said the Sheriff's Office is responding aggressively to protect our staff, citizens, and inmates.

"In February we took early and proactive steps to combat the spread of this virus within our facility. These protocols have continued and are still operating today," Sheriff Christopher Schmaling explained.

To best manage this virus, the RCSO requested the Wisconsin National Guard to complete testing of all inmates and staff.

"This testing will better allow our medical staff to house inmates and manage the spread," a statement explained. Further we have identified a need for more transparency with the public while balancing the safety and security of the facility and the needs of the community."

The Sheriff is in the process of developing an informational dashboard. The goal is to have the data live by the second week of November. This dashboard will provide a snapshot of those affected by virus within the jail and information related to the RCSO response.
