S.C. Johnson Aquatic Center Makes Big Splash In First Year

More than 41,000 people visited the aquatic center in its first year of operation, according to the Racine Family YMCA.

RACINE COUNTY, WI -- The S.C. Johnson Aquatic Center saw more than 41,000 people pass through its gates in the summer of 2018, according to the Racine Family YMCA.

Funded by a $6.5 million donation from SC Johnson, the SC Johnson Community Aquatic Center formally opened on May 30 at Racine County’s Pritchard Park. The Racine Family YMCA, which operates the facility, recorded 41,302 total visits by adults, seniors, youth, and families.

Of those total visits, the YMCA sold 16,563 day passes and 598 seasonal passes, and drew hundreds of participants to water safety-related programs. Ninety-seven youth participated in swim lessons, 245 people participated in the Y’s safety around water program, and the Y’s water exercise class drew an average of 35 people per week.

“It was such a pleasure to operate the beautiful new SC Johnson Community Aquatic Center and to be a partner in providing not only a place where the Racine community could have fun with their friends and family, but where kids could gain the skills they need to be safe around water,” said Jeff Collen, CEO of Racine Family YMCA in a prepared statement.

The S.C. Johnson Aquatic Center was funded through a $6.5 million donation by the company.

The aquatic center features the following amenities:

  • An 8-lane lap pool
  • An activity pool
  • Large water slides
  • A water play structure
  • Rope Course
  • Zero-depth pool for young children
  • 4,800 square foot pool building with changing rooms

There is 14,000 total square feet of water surface, and the center holds 700 people at capacity. The pool building is also home to a concession stand and shaded lounge areas. Swim lessons, water fitness classes, and the opportunity to rent the facility for private events are all part of the aquatic center.
