S.C. Johnson Aquatic Center To Remain Closed For Summer

Officials said the pool is going through a deep clean to make sure its ready for 2021.

RACINE, WI — The S.C. Johnson Community Aquatic Center will not open in 2020, YMCA officials said, marking yet another closure due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic in Wisconsin.

On Wednesday, YMCA officials said "while swimming and beaches are generally considered lower-risk for COVID-19 spread, officials determined that protocols to accommodate an opening of the facility were insufficient to address the significant health risks given larger crowds and confined spaces."

Officials said the pool is going through a deep clean to make sure its ready for 2021. The aquatic center opened in summer 2018 and features 15,000 square feet of water surface and a 4,800 square foot pool building.
