Schulte Student Hit by Car While Crossing Durand

Sturtevant Police confirm the boy's injuries are not serious.

A female driver was cited for no insurance after she struck a boy while he crossed Durand Avenue after school Monday.

Sturtevant Police Chief Sean Marschke confirmed that an eight-year-old boy was struck by a car at 2:18 p.m. Monday. The boy was coming from Schulte School and instead of crossing at the 86th Street crosswalk, which is manned by a Sturtevant police crossing guard, the boy walked further west and tried to cross closer to 87th Street.

South Shore Rescue responded to the scene and transported the boy to Wheaton Francisan All Saint's. Lt. Scott Brauer of SSFD confirmed the child's mother was called and met her son at the hospital.

The driver, a 32-year-old female, was ticketed for not having insurance but not for the accident since the boy did not use the crosswalk.

"The victim's injuries are not serious," he said. "Rescue did use a back-board, but that was more as a precaution than anything else."
