Tanker Truck, 2 SUVs Involved In Tuesday I-94 Crash

Officials said the occupants of both sport utility vehicles were transported to local hospitals.

RACINE COUNTY, WI -- Racine County Sheriff's officials provided an update to the crash later Tuesday, saying that two sport utility vehicles and a semi truck hauling a tanker trailer were involved in the accident.

Racine County Sheriff’s investigation revealed that the driver of a Chevy Tahoe, a 53-year-old man, struck a barrier along the median wall, then stuck the a Jeep Grand Cherokee which was occupied by a married couple who were both 76 years old. The Tahoe then crashed into the tanker trailer of the semi.

Officials said the occupants of both sport utility vehicles were transported to local hospitals. The driver of the semi was not injured.

Ongoing construction on the I-94 north-south corridor may be squeezing rush-hour traffic in the Racine County area.

The crash required all southbound lanes of the interstate to be closed for approximately two hours and one lane remained closed for an additional hour. Backups Tuesday afternoon stretched for more than three miles. The initial cause of the crash is still under investigation.
