Slippery Roads Lead to Multiple Accidents

Mount Pleasant police responded to multiple accidents Saturday morning, two of which involved injuries.

Slippery roads Saturday morning meant a busy morning for Mount Pleasant police officers.

According to a written statement from MPPD Sgt. Matthew Soens, between 6:55 and 9:30 a.m. officers responded to seven accidents, two of which involved injuries. 

At 7:11 a.m., officers were called to the intersection of Durand Avenue and Old Highway 11 for a report of a roll-over accident. When officers arrived, a Dodge Durango was overturned in the ditch.

The SUV was traveling east on Durand with eight passengers when it slipped on black ice and slid toward the ditch. When the tires caught gravel, the truck overturned.

Several of the passengers - who were from Michigan and in town for a funeral - were taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

During this same time period, police also responded to three calls for vehicles in ditches as a result of the slippery conditions.
