Freon Leak Produces Smoke at Pick 'n' Save

South Shore Fire Department answered a call of smoke at the new Pick 'n' Save at Highway 31 and Spring Street.

South Shore Fire responded to calls of smoke Wednesday at the Pick 'n' Save at Spring Street and Highway 31 in Mount Pleasant.

According to Roundy's spokesperson Vivian King, store managers observed smoke at about 1 p.m. and evacuated the store as a precaution.

"There was not a fire," she confirmed. "We discovered there was a freon leak isolated to one area of the store. We were able to address the issue and open the store by 4:20 p.m. No one was hurt and the store is back to business as usual."

Scanner reports posted by Racine Uncovered on Facebook indicated that multiple units from SSFD and Mount Pleasant Police responded to the calls.

The Central Racine County Health Department was called to the store just to be sure that all was well.
