St. Catherine's Routs Racine Lutheran In Friday Night Showdown

RACINE, WI -- Paced by 23 points from Azarien Stephens and 22 by Quinn Cafferty, Racine St. Catherine's boys varsity basketball team defeated host Racine Lutheran by a score of 82-43 on a snowy Friday, Jan. 18 evening.
Coming into Friday night's game, St. Catherine's was in second place in the Metro Classic Conference with a 6-1 conference record and an 11-3 overall record. Racine Lutheran placed sixth in the conference with a 3-4 record and a 6-6- record overall.
Greendale Martin Luther led the conference coming into Friday night's action with a 7-0 record. They're 10-2 overall.

St. Catherine's jumped out immediately against the Crusaders, and a 42-26 halftime lead. They scored six three-point baskets in the first half, including four from Stephens and two more from Tyrese Hunter.
In the second half, Cafferty poured in 12 points all on two-point baskets. The Angels held a lead sizable enough to activate the WIAA's running-clock rule, which requires the official timekeeper to keep the game clock continuously running through all gameplay and non-gameplay once one team's lead reaches 40 points.

St. Catherine's, now 12-3 (7-1 in the MCC) next plays at Kenosha St. Joseph's on Jan. 22. Racine Lutheran falls to 6-7 (3-5 in the MCC) and heads to Kenosha Shoreland Lutheran on Jan. 25.
