Suspected Teen Burglar Nabbed After Chase at Case High School

A teenage boy is suspected of sneaking into a relative's home before school Monday and taking the cash in her purse. When Mount Pleasant Police at Case High School were alerted about the situation, the boy tried to run, but was eventually taken into custody.

Antovia Booker, Jr., 17, of Racine, was charged Tuesday in Racine County Circuit Court with burlgary of a building or dwelling; felony theft, moveable property (more than $5,000 but less than $10,000); obstructing an officer; and disorderly conduct. If convicted of all charges, he faces up to 19-1/2 years in prison and/or up to $46,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint, a female relative of the defendant woke up Monday morning when a male relative came to check on her and asked why he was checking on her twice. When it was determined that the man was arriving for the first time and that it might have been the defendant in the home that morning instead, the woman checked her purse and discovered a large amount of cash missing.

Reports indicate the male relative went to Case High School to ask Booker about the money. The MPPD laison officer located the teenager and was escorting him to the office when the boy broke away and tried to flee.

After he was apprehended, Booker and his locker were searched and officers say they found about $5,000 with the defendant but no keys to the victim's house.

Police say once they had the defendant in custody at the Mount Pleasant Police station, Booker admitted to going to his relative's house and taking $3,000 from her purse. The rest, he reportedly said, was from "selling things."

When Booker made his initial appearance Monday, he was ordered to not have any contact with the woman and to be placed on GPS monitoring. He was given a $2,500 surety bond, which, court records indicate, his mother was willing to co-sign.

Booker will next be in court of Feb. 14 for a preliminary hearing.
