Suspects in Overnight Armed Robbery in Custody

Mount Pleasant police apprehended two suspects in connection with an overnight armed robbery at an area hotel.

Two suspects are expected to face charges of armed robbery after police say they held up a man at gunpoint in the parking lot of an area hotel.

According to a written release from the Mount Pleasant Police Department, officers responded at 11:51 p.m. to a call of armed robbery at the America's Best Value Inn, 5419 Durand Avenue.

When police arrived, a man told them he had been robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot of the hotel when he was exiting his vehicle by two people. One of the suspects displayed a silver handgun, and the pair demanded his keys, cash and cell phone.

After the suspects fled on foot, the victim called police. He described the perpetrators as two black males between 5'8" and 5'10" with medium builds wearing black knit hats and black scarves covering their mouths.

But, at 2:16 a.m. Sunday, MPPD officers pulled over a vehicle in connection with the alleged robbery. Inside the car, police say they found a pistol and clothing that matched the witness' description.

MPPD took the driver, Delante Higgenbottom, 36, of Racine, and his passenger, Ashley Ferguson, 21, of Kenosha, into custody. Both were transported to the Racine County Jail where they are being held.

Higgenbottom is expected to be charged with armed robbery, carrying a concealed weapon, and felon in possession of a firearm. Ferguson will most likely face charges of armed robbery and prostitution.
