According to the criminal complaint, four 17-year-old boys visited the Schram residence because one of them was having an on-going altercation with Kevin Schram. They were yelling and trying to get Kevin out of the house so they could fight. When Kevin didn't emerge, the boys left to take a girl passenger home.

After dropping off their friend, police say the boys got a call from George Schram to come back. When they returned to the Schram residence, the boys told officers, there were a lot of people outside the home. Feeling outnumbered, the boys drove away in a silver car to flee but were pursued.
