Teenager's Rendezvous Gone Wrong Turns Into Probation
A judge Monday sentenced Ashley Haigh to three years probation.

Sturtevant teenager Ashley Haigh was sentenced to probation Monday after pleading no contest in January to stealing a man's truck, but she was accused of also taking cash and the man's puppy to boot.
According to the criminal complaint, Haigh, 16, was accused of setting up a date online with a man who turned out to be a registered sex offender. After he fell asleep during their date on Dec. 2 2012, .
Police say Haigh told the man she was 19 so he was not charged since he reportedly showed officers the texts and instant message conversations where she lied about her age. Officers confirmed the man was not currently under Department of Corrections supervision though he does have to keep his registry information up-to-date.

The man provided Haigh's name and address, but when police went to her home, she wasn't there. A relative, though, retrieved the puppy from the garage and turned it over to police. Eventually, Haigh texted officers about the location of the man's truck.
Haigh could have faced up to 22 years, six months in jail and/or up to $55,000 in fines.

But on Monday, Racine County Circuit Court Judge Timothy Boyle sentenced Haigh to three years probation. She has already spent 69 days in jail so if she violates her probation, she will be sent to jail for a sentence minus those 69 days.
Conditions of her probation include attending school every day for a perfect attendance record, submitting to random urine analysis tests and undergoing a psychiatric evaluation. Haigh is also being required to obtain her high school diploma.
After she was apprehended for this case, Haigh was accused of battery by prisoners. Those charges have since been dismissed.
