Train Suicide Victim Identified

Mount Pleasant police have identified Glen Franiuk as the man who committee suicide Thursday morning by stepping in front of a train.

Mount Pleasant police have identified the victim of a suicide on the Union Pacific railroad tracks early Thursday morning.

Glen Franiuk, 47, formerly of California, is the name of the man killed. MPPD Sgt. Eric Relich released Franiuk's name Saturday morning.

"(Franiuk) was a resident in the state of California before moving to Sturtevant," Relich said in a written release. "He moved back to this area to be closer with members of his family."

Mount Pleasant police and members of the South Shore Fire Department were called at 1:30 a.m. Thursday for a pedestrian struck and killed by a train. Racine County Medical Examiner Michael Payne ruled the death a suicide.

Frankiuk's body was located about a mile south of Durand Avenue on the tracks adjacent to Willow Road. His name was withheld pending family notification.
