Reminder: Village Board Candidates Forum Thursday

Patch, RAMAC and WGTD 91.1FM are teaming up to present a live forum Thursday for all candidates running for a seat on the Mount Pleasant Village Board.

Have questions for Mount Pleasant village board candidates? We have a forum for that.

Residents are invited to attend and participate in a live forum with all the candidates running for a seat on the village board from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Village Hall, 8811 Campus Drive.

Presented by Patch, Racine Area Manufacturers and Commerce and WGTD 91.1FM, the event will feature prepared questions for the candidates and give folks in the audience a chance to ask questions of their own.

Invitations were sent via email to the candidates. Trustee Karen Albeck and County Supervisor Mark Gleason for president are both attending. Trustee John Hewitt, Trustee Sonny Havn, David DeGroot, Chuck Haakma, and Ronald Molnar for trustee are all attending. Steve Herek is out of town and unable to appear.

Associate Regional Editor Janine Anderson from Patch will serve as the moderator and Carol Barkow from RAMAC will be the timekeeper, so the candidates - and the forum - stay on track.

We will not provide questions to the candidates before the event. Here is the format we will follow:

  • Introduction: 1 minute each
  • All candidates: 3 questions with 2 minutes to answer
  • President candidates: 1 question with 2 minutes to answer and 1 minute rebuttal for each
  • Incumbent candidates (including for president): 1 question with 2 minutes to answer
  • Non-incumbent candidates: 1 question with 2 minutes to answer
  • Audience: we will ask residents to fill out cards as they enter the auditorium. From the suggestions we get, we will pick 2 that don't echo the questions on our list. Each candidate gets 2 minutes to answer.
  • Conclusion: 1 minute each

WGTD will air the forum live on 91.1FM and provide links to the recording on its website.
