The State of Wisconsin is working to close the state’s achievement gap by partnering with the nonprofit Waterford.org to reach Wisconsin’s youngest learners. The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction has selected RUSD to receive the Waterford Upstart program, available to families who are eligible for free and reduced-price lunch, with 4-year-old children in our district.

The Waterford Upstart program is for current 4K students who will enter kindergarten in the fall of 2021. This free program helps families teach their child at home 15 minutes a day 5 days a week. Each family is provided personalized coaching support in their home language. Participating families are welcome to sign up additional young learners on the program too. Children who have gone through UPSTART come to Kindergarten with all the skills necessary for the first day and even beyond!

Please know that Waterford Upstart does not replace preschool nor is it an online school. Families that do not have a computer or internet may still participate. Waterford.org will provide a free computer and internet service to those without them. Children who successfully complete the program will get to keep their computers at the end of the program!
