11-Hour Police Standoff Ends Without Incident

A police standoff on Martin Drive in Muskego that began at 9 p.m. Tuesday night ended without incident 11 hours later when a man was taken into custody, police said.

Nobody was injured in the standoff between police and the 26-year-old man that began when officers went to his home in the S17000 block of Martin Drive to arrest him in connection with a domestic violence situation, police said.

Earlier Tuesday, the woman told police that the man — a defendant in an open domestic violence case involving the woman — was making harassing phone calls to her, police said.

Officers learned the woman was the victim of domestic violence involving strangulation in August, and the defendant was violating conditions of his bond. With the cooperation of the Waukesha County District Attorney's office, police obtained a felony arrest warrant.

When police went to the man's home at 9 p.m. Tuesday to serve the warrant, he barricaded himself inside his home, triggering a tactical response, Muskego police said.

It ended at 7:55 a.m. Wednesday, when police found the man hiding under the insulation in the attic, police said.

The man was taken into custody and faces potential charges of felony bail jumping, harassment and resisting arrest, according to police.

Police on Wednesday did not identify the man involved in the standoff, however, Adam L. Michaels was charged in August with strangulation and suffocation,  false imprisonment, and other charges in connection with a domestic abuse incident at the same address.

In that case, Muskego officers were called to Michaels' home after someone reported a woman screaming in the area. When officers arrived they heard Michaels screaming that he would cut the woman's head off inside of a garage, according to the criminal complaint.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on a $650 bond and ordered not to have contact with the victim, according to court records.

New Berlin police, the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department and the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department assisted Muskego on the scene.
